WHO YOU ARE MATTERS - Jack Williams

Hello,

I am Jack Williams. I am currently a junior at USC majoring in mathematics/economics. I was born in Chicago, where I lived for 10 years before moving to Denver, Colorado. Since moving to Colorado, I have come to enjoy being outdoors, whether that is snowboarding, hiking with my mom, or biking. My dream job is to go into entertainment law, so I am beginning to study for the LSAT in hopes of attending law school after graduating from USC. I believe that I am like my parents because they have gifted me with a strong work ethic. In addition, I have picked up my dad's love for sports and my mom's love for the outdoors. I am unlike them in many ways, one of which is that I do not like vegetables. I feel as if my parents have set expectations for me to have a better life than they had. However, they do not pressure me into certain career choices or ways of living. I believe that their goal as a parent was to give my sister and me opportunities to succeed. Through that, I have set certain expectations for myself to follow. Because of this, someone who serves as a model to me is my friend's dad, Tim. He has created a successful life for himself and his family and has grown his children on similar principles as my parents. In connecting with the animal world, an animal that I have a connection with is a sea turtle. I think of a sea turtle and I think of Crush from Nemo, which gives me a chill vibe, and someone that rolls with the punches. Finally, an encounter that I had with a tree or plant growing up was when our family had a cherry tree in our backyard that had a rope swing tied to it. My sister and I would love getting pushed by our parents on it until a storm rolled through and it was struck by lightning. The tree had to be cut down, which we were not happy about, but in return our parents let us get a trampoline in the same spot.

  1. Hey Jack, I love how you're doing entertainment law- some of my friends are in it and enjoy it. LSATs is no walk in the park so I think embodying Crush the turtle will be great as you roll with the punches. I wish you all the best and hopefully you can get some snowboarding in this semester!

  2. Hi Jack, I’m not a fan of veggies either! I also love the outdoors: I’m a skier, but maybe one day I’ll give snowboarding a try. Reading about your major reminded me of when I was really undecided between an Economics major and WBB. Best of luck with the LSAT and your journey toward entertainment law, it sounds fascinating!

  6. Hey Jack, it's crazy you're from Chicago and Denver. My three best friends from college are from there as well. I also think it's great you love snowboarding (even though I think skiing is better haha). You should go to Mammoth if you haven't been. Anyway, I hope you become an entertainment lawyer! As an entertainment minor, one of my professors was a lawyer in the undustry and he was amazing. Plus, he seemed to love his job. Good luck with the LSATs!

  7. Hi Jack, even though I know you I didn't know you wanted to become a lawyer, super cool. Good luck with all the studying! Also, sea turtles are dope animals, some of my favorite scenes from Nat Geo documentaries are the baby sea turtles cruising around.
