For my book report, I chose The Autobiography of Gucci Mane , written by Gucci Mane with Neil Martinez-Belkin. I first came across this book during my freshman year of high school when my biology teacher introduced it to me. It may have seemed unusual for a teacher to recommend this book to someone so young, and ironically, she was fired shortly after. Since then, I have read the book two times, and continue to gain a deeper appreciation for Gucci Mane’s journey – not only his successful rise to the rap game but as a man who has overcome significant adversity as well. One thing that drew my attention to this book was not because of his influence on the rap industry but because I wanted to learn more about the man behind the music. It is not very often such an influential rapper opens up so candidly through a book. That is why I found one of the strongest aspects to be his honesty and directness to the readers.
